This year Chanel has released a new version of its much-acclaimed Bleu de Chanel fragrance line, and when I say new, I mean Bleu de Chanel Parfum. Nearly everyone loves this original fragrance, and if you ask most people, it is definitely included in their list of "best scents.".

As far as I am aware, I have owned the original eau de toilette ever since its release in 2010, and its Eau de Parfum was released in 2014. This is the newest addition to the collection and is a full-bodied perfume released in 2018. The original version has always been my favorite, so when I heard about the perfume version, I was so excited to give it a try.

According to Olivier Polge, this fragrance was created with the Chanel Laboratory for Fragrance Creation and Development. It is said to adjust the proportions of the woods and citrus in the previous two variations.

What Is The Difference Between Eau De Parfum VS. Eau De Toilette?

Look no further if you wonder where you can begin your quest to find a new perfume for women's or men's cologne. As a matter of personal taste and choice, choosing a fragrance is exceptionally subjective, requiring the establishment of a new signature scent and understanding the differences between Eau De Parfum (EDP) and Eau De Toilette (EDT), and sometimes even Parfum and Intense variants. What is the difference between the two?

The best place to start when on the hunt for a new fragrance is understanding the terms EDT and EDP, as these terms provide helpful hints as to the intensity, price, and longevity of a particular perfume or cologne. One of the main differences between an EDP and an EDT is the concentration of fragrance oil present, which will significantly impact how long the scent of perfume will last. In comparison to an Eau De Parfum, an Eau De Toilette typically contains between 8-15% fragrance oil that lasts for roughly 4-6 hours, whereas an Eau De Parfum typically includes 15-30% fragrance oil and can last for up to 8-10 hours. Several EDP fragrances contain heavier molecules or notes, which are more robust and bolder for the nose, improving the silage and longevity of the scent.

You can tell the difference between the three by the concentration of perfume in the bottle if you aren't big on fragrance and don't understand what the difference is.

If we want a simple standard, Eau de toilette can be compared to Eau de perfume, which is more robust, and finally, perfume, also known as pure perfume or perfume extract, is the most potent concentration.

How To Make Your Perfume Last Longer?

Does your fragrance not seem to last on your skin for an extended period? The following are a few tips for increasing the longevity of your fragrance so that you can keep smelling great all day long.

Clothing plays a crucial role in making an excellent first impression. Did you ever wonder why you can still smell the perfume and cologne on a jacket you wore a few days ago? You can keep your signature scent with you all day long with a few spritzes of an irresistible musky essence on your scarf, jacket, or any other article of clothing. Fragrance molecules attach themselves to materials, so you can still smell the lovely hearts, and base perfume notes even after some time has passed.

It's easy to project an aura of luxurious scent around you and those nearby as you walk! You can launch an atmosphere of elegant scent as you walk past those nearby by applying perfume to your hair (hello, Mon Paris Hair Mist! ), shoulders, and chest. To prevent stains or damage to your clothes, avoid spraying too close to the fabric. You should also remember that it is better to be seen first than smelled first! As a result, it is always advisable to err on caution when it comes to applying too much of your favorite fragrance. If you have already used the product on your skin, 2-3 spritzes on your clothes should suffice.

The following are two more traditional ways to make your perfume last longer:

Scent And Perfume Layering

If you want to improve the longevity of your fragrance, the first step you need to take is to layer your scent. If you were to layer your favorite clothes, just like you would for your perfume and cologne, the same rule would apply.

Using an iconic-fragrance shower gel such as our Y Shower Gel as a base, such as a matching or complementary-scent wash, is a great way to begin. When you are done with the shower or bath, follow up with a matching body cream, lotion, or hand cream such as Libre Hand Cream before spritzing two or three drops of your favorite scent.

As the fragrance will last longer on hydrated skin, anything you can do to improve your skin's hydration before applying the perfume can significantly enhance its life expectancy. It is also recommended that those with oily skin types use their fragrances for a more extended period than those with drier skin types.

Opt For Strong Perfume Scents That Last Longer

It also doesn't hurt to choose a cologne or perfume with a strong scent if you want a fragrance that will last a long time. This can be accomplished by looking for a higher percentage of oils or products containing the words Intense or Parfum in the name of the product - like our Libre Eau De Parfum Intense women L'Homme Le Parfum men's fragrance. As a general rule, the stronger the fragrance type, the longer it will last, depending on how you like to wear it and the occasion you wear it.

Bleu De Chanel

The Bleu de Chanel fragrance was created by Jacques Polge for Chanel in 2010 as a men's fragrance. This was the first men's fragrance produced by the brand since the release of Allure Homme Sport in 2004 and the first master brand for men introduced by the company since Égo*ste in 1990. In addition to the original eau de toilette, Jacques Polge also formulated the 2014 Eau de parfum, and Olivier Polge developed the 2018 version. The latter is now working on the new parfum formula. French actor Gaspard Ulliel was the first ambassador for Bleu de Chanel and remained the face of the fragrance for twelve years until his death in January of 2022, at the age of 82.

Conception And Scent

Several characteristics make Blue de Chanel a unique woody aromatic fragrance, distinguished by fragrant herbs, a rich center, and a large base. It contains a top note of lemon, mint, pink pepper, and grapefruit; middle notes of ginger, Iso E Super, nutmeg, and jasmine; and a base note of labdanum, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, incense, cedar, and white musk.

Release And Advertising

There was a discussion about the marketing campaign for Bleu de Chanel as an example of branded entertainment in the fashion industry.

On February 16, 2010, it was revealed that French actor Gaspard Ulliel would be the first face of Bleu de Chanel, making him Chanel's first male ambassador. A television commercial filmed in New York City premiered online on August 25, 2010, and was shown on television in September of the same year. Ingrid Sophie Schram, who starred in the movie Ulliel, was directed by Martin Scorsese. Additionally, "She Said Yeah" appeared on the album.

Galactic said Chanel had chosen Scorsese because he was "the quintessential American film director" to develop a "product and marketing approach that is uniquely tailored to the American market" where the brand's men's fragrance business was not yet fully developed. As of September 13, 2010, the fragrance was available in stores.

During the week of February 5, 2015, a new commercial starring Ulliel was aired. James Gray directed the film, which was shot in Los Angeles and featured a cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix.

The British filmmaker released a new commercial featuring American filmmaker Steve McQueen for Bleu de Chanel on June 1, 2018. Filmed in Bangkok, the commercial also included underwater scenes filmed in London. During the film, Ulliel walks through the city searching for a woman (played by German model Nur Hellmann) he saw in a building while David Bowie's "Starman" plays in the background.

In fact, until the day of his death on January 19, 2022, Ulliel had been the face of Bleu de Chanel for 12 years. Chanel's official Instagram and Facebook pages shared a tribute to him as soon as he passed away. As part of its Spring/Summer 2022 Haute Couture show at Paris Fashion Week on January 25, 2022, Chanel also paid homage to Ulliel by presenting an Ulliel-inspired collection. After the show, a model dressed as a bride carried a bouquet of camellias, Coco Chanel's favorite flower, tinted midnight blue as a nod to Ulliel and her perfume Bleu de Chanel.

The Bottle

As with other classic bottle shapes found elsewhere in this range, Chanel sticks to the infamous classic shape of the bottle. This beautiful bottle has a stunning dark blue glass which is complimented with gold highlights. With the simple branding adorning the front, this is an excellent and elegant bottle that we've expected from this house.

The spray is excellent, friendly, and comprehensive and provides enough coverage where only a few sprays will be required.

How Does Bleu De Chanel Parfum Smell?

I can tell you that Bleu De Chanel Parfum is a great-smelling perfume. It is what you would expect from any Chanel scent and this collection. With a hint of spice, it smells masculine, woody, solid, and strong with a touch of masculine scent. This fragrance is soft, and you can smell its sandalwood. It feels like a dark, bold, and mature fragrance, and I enjoy how it smells.

If you have never tried any of the other fragrances in this collection and don't know what to expect, I can honestly say that this is a lovely fragrance, and if you like a scent that is woody and masculine, you will probably enjoy it. I see this being worn on several different occasions and at other events in the future. This scent would work best as an evening scent, and since it has subtle notes, you would be able to wear it both on formal occasions and more casual ones.

However, you can wear it during the day too, and I think it would be perfect for an office fragrance. Chanel Parfum goes exceptionally well with a well-fitting suit or a simple white shirt, ideal for pairing the scent with clothing. I would say that this is an all-around scent, making it a good choice if you're only looking for that one signature scent.

Performance And Longevity

One of the advantages of perfumes is that they are said to last longer and that their performance is better. The fragrance stayed on my skin for at least seven hours, and I could still smell it. When it comes to wearing this for an evening out, you should be able to wear it for the whole evening.

Bleu De Chanel Parfum Vs Eau De Toilette Comparison

The chances are you already own or have at least tried the original Bleu De Chanel EDT, and you are wondering how it compares to the original Bleu De Chanel EDT and whether it is worth buying. In addition, there is the middle-of-the-road one, EDP, but since I have never used it, I will not be able to compare it to the others.

The smell of the EDT seems much fresher, citrusy, and sharper than the perfume. You get more of the woods in this perfume, but you don't get any sharpness; it's pretty gentle. It would be best if you didn't confuse this scent with the masculine scent since the perfume is a powerful scent in its own right but in a different way.

The only way I can describe the similarities is that you would see this scent on both of them if you had two guys. While they both wear suits, both are stylish and exude masculinity; the one wearing the EDT is slightly younger, and the gentleman wearing the perfume is somewhat older.

The scents of the two men are interchangeable, but that's what you'd expect each of them to wear.

Which Is Better?

Both of them. Even though they smell incredibly similar, they also smell pretty different simultaneously, so I can't say which one is better. However, you are free to make your own choice anyway. Chanel's Blu de Chanel Parfum will be available from 1st June 2018, with a 50ml bottle costing £76 and a 100ml bottle costing £106 here at Chanel.com.

Longevity. Since this is the perfume version of Bleu De Chanel, it’s a higher concentration, and you can expect to get 7+ hours with this.

Projection. The projection is pretty good but not overwhelming, which you’d expect from this subtle scent. People close by will be able to smell this on you.

  • Best season to wear it. All Rounder
  • Scent type. Woody, Aromatic, Soft Citrus
  • Age Recommendation. 21+
  • Best Worn. Evening, Casual, Formal
  • Top Notes: Lemon Zest
  • Heart Notes: Lavender, Geranium
  • Base Notes: Sandalwood, Cedar

Conclusion

You buy fragrances on the Internet sometimes out of necessity, and sometimes it's just for convenience, but if you spend a lot of time around fragrances, there's going to be a time when you buy a scent that you've never tried before.

There are always a few safe fragrance options and the more risky ones, and you can choose to buy the safer ones online while buying, the more risky ones in the store. I hope you find this guide helpful as you decide on fragrance blind buying.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I Do If I Can't Smell My Fragrance After Wearing It For A While?

The sensation that you are experiencing is quite normal. It is believed that this could be due to a habituation effect, which means that we no longer can detect a fragrance on ourselves in the same way that we could when we first started wearing it. But do not be alarmed: other people will still be able to smell and appreciate the fragrance on you even when wearing a mask. However, it is possible to enhance your usual perfume by adding one or two complementary products, such as body lotion or cream, from the line. The scent that is delicately left on your skin all day long will enhance your fragrance throughout the day.

How To Use Bleu De Chanel Parfum?

The warmth from your own body intensifies the fragrance that you are wearing. If you wish to make your scent last for longer, then apply it to the creases of your knees and elbows. Avoid rubbing or dabbing your skin after applying the product. When this happens, the fragrance breaks down and is more likely to wear off sooner. If you like to wear fragrances on your wrists, be sure to reapply after frequent hand washings, as this tends to wash away the scent. After 12 months, replace the fragrance with a new one. Perfumes that have been expired for more than a year lose the integrity of the original scent.
